Gayvegas.com has seen a tremendous increase in the number of visitors to the
site. As a result, the number of visitors and the amount being charged for the
storage of Gayvegas.com doubled from 1997 to 1999. Gayvegas.com is not a
profit-making entity. We choose to keep the site this way as our donation of
time, money, and energy to the local, regional, national and international
gay/bi/lesbian communities. In keeping in the true sense of an
unconditional gift to the communities we also choose not to take advantage
of any possible income tax write-offs due from Gayvegas.com. The concept of Gayvegas.com initially started as a dos
text file we uploaded to people on line who noticed we lived in Las Vegas and
asked where to go and what do do here. A good friend asked to put the
information on his personal home page. We agreed and to our amazement that
text received a few hits. The domain name was registered and Gayvegas.com
became it's own entity. The number of hits increased tremendously. If
host statistics are correct Gayvegas.com currently
receives over 450,000 hits per year.
From 1997 to 1999 Gayvegas.com was hosted with a very efficient and reliable
web host. A minimal charge was asked for storage of the website
data. That charge included an allowance for the transfer of data to your
computers for viewing. This arrangement was economical within
limits. However, with the demand to include more information about what
the Gay Las Vegas lifestyle has to offer, and with the incredible increase in visitors to the site, hosting
Gayvegas.com with that host is no longer economically feasible.
To counter these increase costs, we have chosen to move all of the existing WebPages and images to a new free
host and leave only 2 pointer pages with images at the previous site until the
location for the Gayvegas.com domain name can be changed.
Hopefully the new host will be as easily accessed and as speedy to reach at
the previous. Otherwise, we would appreciate knowing if you are having consistent
difficulties reaching and downloading Gayvegas.com information.
Because of a previous commitment and agreement, Gayvegas.com
does not advertise for-profit-businesses. Yes, certain businesses are
mentioned. However, these are mentioned in answer to literally thousands
of questions regarding where to go and what do do in Las Vegas.
Certain individuals have complained these businesses are getting an unfair
break. Perhaps so; however, if these businesses weren't mentioned
Gayvegas.com would have no purpose. In the event Gayvegas.com does
advertise for-profit it will be announced and solicitations for advertisement
will be welcome. Until then, your patience and understanding are
appreciated.
The new host does have a commercial popup window with their logo as a trade for the free
website. This is not to be construed as advertisement on
Gayvegas.com Being the clever rascals they are, Tripod.com has written the popup
window to popup when you navigate to another Gayvegas.com web page. To thank
them for hosting Gayvegas.com, you are encouraged to checkout http://www.tripod.com
. However, if you find yourself to be as frustrated as we are with the
in-your-face approach to advertising, we recommend you do not close the popup
while at Gayvegas.com. Merely minimize the popup to the menu bar and it
will stay out of the way. We offer our apologies for this small annoyance.
We hope you enjoy visiting Gayvegas.com
